MAT Personal Development Lead

Andrew Moffat MBE

Biography

I have worked in Primary schools since 1996, focusing on teaching children with emotional and behavioural difficulties for much of my career. In 2014 I joined Parkfield Community School as Assistant Head and I am now Personal Development Lead for Excelsior Trust.

In 2014 I created the No Outsiders resource to develop inclusive practice at Parkfield School and later published the scheme. I was overjoyed in 2016 to see the ethos highlighted as a key strength of the school during an Ofsted visit. In 2017 I was awarded an MBE for services to equality and diversity in Education and in 2019 I was listed as a top ten finalist in the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher prize. I was also awarded an honorary doctorate from the University of Worcester.

Protests against equality teaching gave my work a national focus in 2019 and as a result demand for training and conference keynotes increased considerably. During the year my work was recognised and celebrated by Pink News, Huffington Post, Attitude and the European Diversity Awards. Today No Outsiders is taught in hundreds of schools across the UK and I am overjoyed to be working with Excelsior Trust to develop equality work nationally and globally.
